Project Turn-Based
A downloadable game for Windows
This project is a turn-based combat prototype focused on elemental abilities and party-based RPG systems. Developed during a 4-week specialism module earlier in 2025, the goal was to design and implement core JRPG-style combat systems in Unreal Engine, including menu-driven actions and stat-based gameplay.
Key features developed:
- Turn-based combat system with UI-driven actions
- Fire, Ice, and Thunder elemental attacks
- HP / MP system with live battle UI
- Enemy AI turn logic and stat system
- Magic menu with offensive & healing spells
- Item and technique system, including a steal ability
- EXP, level-up logic, and basic save/load system
- Critical hit system and enemy HP display
- Dynamic battle camera & player/enemy animations
Focus Areas
This project focused on gameplay systems, UI, and combat logic rather than final animation or visual polish. Elemental weaknesses and resistances were started but remain incomplete.
What I'd improve next
- Complete and balance the elemental affinity system.
- Improve animations & VFX.
- Refine battle camera transitions
- Add polished characters and enemy models.
Known Issues
- Save system does not fully retain level-up progression
- Healing action can cause the player to rotate incorrectly during animation
- Technique command is implemented but not fully functional in this build
- Elemental affinity system is partially implemented and not fully balanced
This prototype represents a systems-focused exploration of turn-based combat design.
How to Play: Select actions from the menu to fight enemies using physical attacks, magic, items, and techniques.
Controls: Mouse & Left-Click to select actions.
